Climate Action and Sustainability Centre for Excellence
Equipping coaches to address climate and sustainability in their practice
We support EMCC Global members (coaches, mentors, supervisors and trainers) to raise awareness of their personal and professional role in addressing climate change and sustainability challenges.
Our CfE provides tools, resources and reflective learning experiences to help members better cope with the ecological transition and, where appropriate, support their clients in engaging with these critical issues.
We support practitioners to work more systemically, supporting our role in social justice.
“We are a living, breathing manifestation of this beautiful and generous planet. Knowing this, we can begin to transform our relationship to the earth. We can begin to walk differently and to care for her differently.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
We respond directly to what members tell us they need: practical tools for reflection, help with systemic thinking, and support for individual action.
Many members experience climate anxiety themselves or encounter it in clients. We provide learning experiences and resources to help shift from anxiety to purposeful action. Through our partnership with other professional bodies on the Global Code of Ethics and Joint Statement on Climate Change, we work to ensure our profession is equipped to address these critical issues.
We offer our tools and guides as resources to support your thinking and practice, not as prescriptive answers. Our role is to help you reflect on your own approach and identify actions that make sense for you and your clients.
Key initiatives
We are working on these initiatives now and will share launch dates and details as each becomes available over 2026/27.
A Second Reflective Guide – A new guide drawing on ancient wisdom to support reflection on climate and sustainability. [Timeline: 25/26 – specific dates needed]
Ethical & Sustainable Business Practices Guide – Practical guidance on bringing sustainable and ethical practices into coaching and mentoring work. [Timeline: 25/26 – specific dates needed]
Youth Sustainability Partnerships – Exploring ways to support young people on sustainability issues through mentoring. [Timeline: Exploration phase in 25/26]
Our impact
We demonstrate measurable impact through rigorous research and member engagement.
Our 2023 research study “Exploring the role and boundaries of coaching for climate action” engaged 219 practitioners, revealing that 70% hold EMCC Global accreditation with over half viewing climate action as part of their coaching role. Practitioners are predominantly at the “curious” stage of eco-awareness, with strong appetite for development — 68% engaging in self-study and 52% attending webinars.
This evidence informed development of the Reflective Guide which participants describe as “enriching” and providing “clearer sense of purpose.”
The CfE collaborates with the EMCC Global Research CfE to maintain evidence-based practice.
Through active engagement in the Sustainability Coaching Coalition – a partnership with professional bodies representing 300,000 practitioners worldwide – we position EMCC Global at the forefront of ethical, climate-conscious practice.
We also actively work with the Ethics CfE to further support ethical practice. We continue to evolve and plan annual work programmes, in response to the needs of members.
