Regulation Centre for Excellence
Ensuring ethical coaching, mentoring and supervision practice
We define the professional, ethical and governance requirements for practitioner accreditation and recognition. We establish clear expectations regarding professional conduct, competence and accountability, providing a structured framework through which professionals and organisations demonstrate compliance with recognised ethical principles, continuous professional development requirements and quality assurance processes.
We aim to ensure high standards of professional, ethical and governance practice in coaching, mentoring and supervision worldwide. We promote ethical conduct aligned with EMCC Global standards, ensuring transparency and consistency in how practitioners work. We strengthen professional accountability whilst supporting continuous development and reflective practice as essential elements of professional competence.
By embedding self-regulation within an internationally recognised framework, we help raise standards across coaching, mentoring and supervision, reinforcing these disciplines as credible, responsible professional practices. We contribute to EMCC Global’s self-regulatory model by helping professionals demonstrate their commitment to ethics, ongoing development and quality assurance.
We work to build public trust in the profession, support practitioners in maintaining high standards, and ensure that professional regulation serves both individual practitioners and the organisations and clients who rely on their services. Our approach balances rigour with accessibility, ensuring standards are applied fairly and consistently across international contexts.
Key initiatives
Professional Charter for Coaching and Mentoring (ongoing) – Provides a shared ethical and professional framework, developed in partnership with the ICF and adopted by leading coaching and mentoring bodies worldwide, ensuring consistent standards and responsible practice.
Transparancy and accountability mechanisms (ongoing) – Establishes clear and transparent procedures for addressing concerns related to professional conduct, ensuring fairness, protecting practitions, clients and organisations.
Professional self-regulation (ongoing) – Supports practitioners to demonstrate personal responsibility through defined standards, reflective practice and continuous professional development, reinforcing the credibility and maturity of coaching, mentoring and supervision as self-regulated professions.
Our impact
The review and joint submission of the Professional Charter for Coaching and Mentoring, carried out in collaboration with other leading professional bodies, has already strengthened alignment across the coaching, mentoring and supervision sector.
This collective approach has reinforced shared ethical principles, improved coherence between professional standards and enhanced international consistency in professional practice.
Building on this progress, EMCC Global has initiated a second review cycle, further consolidating its role as a key convenor and leader in the ongoing development of credible, collaborative self-regulatory frameworks. In parallel, the redefinition of the EMCC Global Complaints Procedure has resulted in a more robust, transparent and proportionate mechanism for addressing concerns related to professional conduct. By clarifying roles, responsibilities and decision-making processes, the revised procedure has increased confidence among practitioners, clients and organisations, whilst strengthening accountability and fairness.
Together, these initiatives have reinforced trust in EMCC Global’s governance model and contributed to the recognition of coaching, mentoring and supervision as mature, responsibly self-regulated professions aligned with internationally recognised principles of ethical practice and professional oversight.
