Mikko Sorvari, EMCC Global President, said: “I am delighted to extend a heartfelt welcome to Erwin as the new Chair of our Council. As the Global President, I am truly excited about the opportunity to co-create and collaborate with Erwin to ensure the continued success and growth of EMCC Global. Together, I am confident that we will build on our strong foundation, drive impactful initiatives, and further our mission to make a meaningful difference in the world. Welcome aboard, Erwin, I look forward to this exciting journey ahead.”

Erwin brings a distinctive international perspective to the role, shaped by 30 years working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) where his most recent role involved setting up a global team focused on access to healthcare products, built around five regional hubs. This experience mirrors his ambitions for EMCC Global’s development as an increasingly international organisation.

When Erwin joined MSF Norway as General Director in 2015, there was a single mentoring position for the international organisation. Under his guidance, this grew into what is now the MSF Mentoring and Coaching Hub, serving the global organisation. This Hub was actually the first organisation to be awarded EMCC Global’s flagship accreditation for organisations ISMCP – International Standards in Mentoring and Coaching Programmes. Erwin remains an established mentor in MSF, particularly for colleagues working in communication roles.

Beyond his own coaching credentials and experience –  he has coached more than 50 clients across cultures in more than 25 countries, and is training up to coach relations and teams as well – Erwin brings extensive governance experience from MSF, where he served on the executive committee for many years, sat on the board of MSF Denmark, and participated in most of the organisation’s international general assemblies.

This cross-cultural experience has become central to his coaching philosophy. “Coaching across cultures, across borders, has really become one of my passions, with all the richness that it brings, and sometimes the challenges that come with it as well,” Erwin said.

Erwin’s priorities for his term reflect both humility and ambition. He is particularly interested in EMCC Global’s evolution from a European organisation to an increasingly global international body.

He said: “As a coach working with individuals I contribute to renewed clarity and focus, and increased confidence. Those are three key words that I also bring to the EMCC in this role: clarity on the challenges and the ambitions that we collectively face, focus to make sure that we put our energy where it brings the greatest benefit for the members and practitioners, and through them for the people that we coach and mentor around the world. And confidence: EMCC is an extremely relevant organisation, potentially even more relevant in the future than it is today already.”

Originally from the Netherlands but having lived abroad for the past 25 years, Erwin van ‘t Land is now based in Oslo.

Many thanks to outgoing Chair Rachael Hanley-Browne for her guidance and leadership of the EMCC Global Council over the last three years. We are grateful for Rachael’s term of office, which officially ends on 31 December 2025.

Erwin begins his tenure as EMCC Global Chair on 1 January 2026.
